Voices from the Work

Everything gathered here is made by people inside this work. The podcasts, news, and blogs come from organizations serving survivors across Washington State, each speaking and writing about their own work in their own voice.

There’s no order to follow. Some of what you’ll find is practical, some is reflective, and some is news worth acting on. Start wherever it’s useful to you.

Matriarchs: Journeys and Memoirs

Contributed by: WomenSpirit Coalition

Hosted by: Cheryl Coan and Dee Rhodes-Koester

The podcast invites listeners into the emotional and historical journeys of matriarchs: the women who carried traditions, made difficult choices, held families together, broke cycles, and created paths for those who came after them. Blending memory, culture, and lived experience, “Matriarchs / Journeys and Memoirs” is a space for honoring women’s stories not as footnotes, but as central narratives of love, power, endurance, and legacy.

WomenSpirit brings vital leadership to work with American Indian, Alaska Native, Indigenous, and Tribal communities. Its role helps ensure that survivor advocacy includes culturally grounded approaches, community connection, and the leadership of those closest to the work.

Whole Again Pod

Contributed by: Social Strategies

Hosted by: Teddy McGlynn-Wright and Leslie Briner, MSW

Whole Again Pod is a conversation about trauma, healing, and the journey toward wholeness. Through candid discussions, expert insights, and real-life stories, we explore the ways people rebuild after hardship — whether it’s personal loss, systemic injustice, or the everyday struggles of being human.

With backgrounds in advocacy, social work, and education, Teddy and Leslie bring deep experience and compassion to the conversation. Each episode offers practical takeaways, thoughtful reflection, and a reminder that healing is possible.

Join us as we navigate the complexities of trauma, resilience, and what it means to become whole again.

Please considering joining and supporting these organizations in their work supporting our field. WA-SAST is proud to highlight their work and to recognize all three organizations as WA-SAST Contributors.

News from the Field

The organizations in this network write about the work while they’re doing it. Their news pages and blogs are where policy changes get explained, where practice questions get answered, and where the shifts happening across Washington State show up first.

These links open each organization’s own site, where you can hear from them directly.

Statewide policy updates, advocacy alerts, and coalition announcements affecting survivors and the programs that serve them across Washington.

Updates from Washington’s tribal coalition serving Native survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, including legal services and Sayu’ʔ X Wey Institute programming.

Practice-focused writing from the advocates, therapists, and prevention educators serving Pierce and Kitsap counties, covering healing, therapy, prevention education, and community work.

Research reports, wellness guides, and roundtable findings centering Asian and Pacific Islander survivors of sexual violence.

Following the Work

Following these organizations is one of the more practical things an advocate can do. Funding shifts, legal changes, and new research usually reach the field through the people already doing the work, long before they reach anywhere official. Subscribing to a newsletter or checking a news page every few weeks is a low-effort way to stay current.

This list isn’t exhaustive. Organizations across Washington State are publishing thoughtful work, and we expect this section to grow.

From the Field, From the Community

The people behind these podcasts and publications are the same people running the programs, writing the materials, and teaching the trainings. You’ll find their organizations in the directory, searchable by county and by the services they provide. You’ll find materials they’ve contributed in the Agency Resources Library. And you’ll find them teaching, hosting, and convening on the events calendar. This work is connected.
